Community Agroforestry Day
This weekend at Gosdensheath Farmhouse, Northern Wind partnered with Roots to Fruits CIC to plant the first wave of fruit and nut trees, taking a big step towards creating a food forest. Despite the chilly weather, the energy from the community was amazing, families, friends, and individuals of all ages came together to plant 600 trees. It wasn’t just about the trees; it was about getting outside, connecting, and doing something meaningful together. Each tree we planted is a step towards a future food forest that will one day support fruit bushes, herbs, and mushrooms. It was a rewarding, hands-on day that truly showed the power of community.

The Impact of
Planting 600 Trees
Planting 600 trees over the weekend was a huge achievement, and it wasn’t just about adding trees to the land it was about the tangible impact we made on the environment right now. Each tree planted, whether it was a fruit or nut tree, was a step towards building a diverse and sustainable space that will provide food and shelter for plants, wildlife, and people alike. The effort felt immediate, and everyone could see how the trees would contribute to the area in the near future.
Planting fruit trees is a hands-on process that involves careful preparation and teamwork. It starts with digging holes at the right spacing, placing saplings securely, and covering their roots with soil to protect them as they grow. Along the way, tools, mulch, and a lot of effort come together to ensure each tree has the best chance to thrive. This collaborative effort at Gosdensheath Farmhouse brought people together to lay the foundation for a sustainable, community-focused orchard.
A Day of Collective Effort
The weekend wasn’t just about planting trees; it was about bringing the community together to get outdoors, get involved, and enjoy the fresh air. The spirit of the day was all about connection—between people, nature, and the land. There was a real sense of pride in watching 600 trees take root, knowing that this was a shared achievement. From the youngest volunteers to the most experienced, it was a day that truly showcased the power of community effort in creating something lasting and meaningful.
